Bosco Nico

Italy
Cessalto (TV)

Veneto’s first food forest, a permanent forest open to the entire community, which will provide edible species for humans and wildlife, all year round.

Bosco Nico is a forestation project of an agricultural area that serves a dual purpose: to increase the forest area in eastern Veneto and to create a forest for the production of fruits and wild berries. In other words: Bosco Nico is Veneto’s first food forest, a permanent forest open to the entire community, which will provide edible species for humans and wildlife, all year round. Bosco Nico also stems from the need to create new green areas in the Veneto lowlands.

Demand for areas where it is possible to enjoy recreational activities in forest and woodlands has been growing over the past decade due to the increasing perception that such places are lacking. Population concentration in large urban centers and the limited availability of lowland forests are the main reasons related to this increase in demand. This forest is located in an area suitable for mitigating the impacts created by cementification and pollution.

It is located near the Cessalto highway exit, i. e. south of the industrial area directly adjacent to the highway, thus ensuring easy access and good visibility. In addition, given the nearby presence of “Bosco Olmé,” we decided to position Bosco Nico as a continuation to the existing forest in order to make the forest area larger.
