Bosco di Carpaneda (Carpaneda Forest) is located west of Vicenza, close to the business and industrial area of via Vecchia Ferriera, near the border with Creazzo. The Forest, created by the Municipality in 2009, covers an area of about 7 hectares and also serves as an extension of the Dioma irrigation ditch.\u200b The forest lies within one of the few areas that have managed to withstand the urban expansion model that we have passively witnessed over the past 30 years. In the town planning document of the Municipality of Vicenza, the forest is classified as a “Rural Environmental Zone” and is included in a larger agricultural setting that, from southwest to north, includes several hundred hectares of fertile land cultivated with vegetables, orchards, vineyards, grasslands and fodder crops. On the north and northeast sides, the countryside is still visible, but much of the land is about to make room for the new beltway with its junction precisely at Via del Sole -a high-impact project, especially from a landscape and ecological point of view.<\/p>\n

A large portion of land – far larger than the forest area – extending north-south from the left bank of the Dioma irrigation ditch, has been classified by the Municipality of Vicenza as an ” Area of High Nature Value”. These areas “by serving as preferential sites for the formation of ecological rebalancing areas, have high and strategic environmental potential in terms of safeguarding connection capabilities.” The potential, and the protection, of this rural suburban area should not be viewed as something static (museum, showcase) or exclusively from an environmental perspective, but as the active demonstration of an integrated system that, starting with the need for hydraulic mitigation, has recreated a natural environment, harmonized it with the existing agricultural crops, and conveyed tourism by promoting local supply chains.<\/p>\n
