It must have been impossible not to feel fragile, small and at the mercy of events during that horrific night. It was the night of 29 October 2018 when the wind hit our mountains with all its strength, devastating in a few minutes several centuries-old forests and tearing up deep wounds in our landscape, wounds that will take decades to heal.
No one, in these lands, will ever forget Storm Vaia. And so it is for Sappada, a mountain locality situated in the eastern Dolomites, at the border between Austria and the Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, whose green expanses of trees suddenly disappeared, with the wind that left behind just uprooted trees and damaged forest trails.
Support the restoration of its forests, grow a tree in Sappada!
