The mangrove thrives in brackish environments, in waters where the river mixes with the sea and where, within its intricate surface roots, various species find nourishment and shelter. It is also called the “sea nanny” because among its roots the eggs of birds, fish and shellfish are safe: recommended for those with protective instincts and a generous soul.

When the fresh water of the Amazon River joins the salt water of the Atlantic Ocean, mangrove forests are born. This mangrove formation is typical of South America, especially Brazil, where it reaches 10 m in height, with its roots submerged in the saline water. Among the dense lattices it forms, it is home to various animal species: capybaras, manatees and crustaceans.
Mangrove are decreasing globally due to a number of localized threats. The major threat is habitat destruction and elimination of mangrove areas due to the development of coastal regions for a variety of human activities.
The wood is coarse-textured, regular-grained, quite heavy and difficult to process. It is used solely for sawn boards for the production of general packing boxes, best left to thrive in its habitat.
