Adopt a tree and protect Foresta della salute

Why support this forest?

In the heart of Vietnam, the Wellbeing Forest is one of the country’s most significant remaining pristine natural forest areas, threatened by deforestation and illegal logging. Even though it is thousands of kilometres away, supporting a forest means caring for everyone’s future.

Protect Foresta della salute

It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

Current threat : Illegal logging

Protecting a forest from illegal logging is about ensuring a responsible timber market. Plus, it also safeguarding people who live in these territories, their values and their future.
In the last few decades, Vietnam has lost major forest areas to logging, an increasingly urgent issue that must be solved. In the past 20 years alone, more than 1.5 million hectares of forests have been lost to unsustainable logging, agricultural expansion, and urban and infrastructure development. This tragic phenomenon is costing us more than expected.

Losing forests equals to losing benefits generated every day: CO2 capture, biodiversity protection, water resource improvement, and employment opportunities for local communities. To reverse this trend, the Huong Son Forest Company engages in daily surveillance and monitoring, aimed at preventing illegal logging and poaching activities. It will also be useful to plan ecological enrichment, studies and research for the conservation of the forest and its biodiversity.

How we are improving the forest

The Wellbeing Forest, located in Huong Son, Vietnam, is an oasis of biodiversity and a vital natural forest area, unfortunately under threat from deforestation and illegal logging. This conservation and restoration project, initiated through collaboration between WOWnature and Huong Son Forest Company, aims to protect and enhance this valuable ecosystem spanning over 20,000 hectares. Illegal logging, pressure for new agricultural land and infrastructure, coupled with climate change, pose severe risks to the survival of this unique ecosystem.

Stretching along the border with Laos, the Wellbeing Forest hosts an extraordinary variety of animal and plant species, many of which are endangered. Beyond its ecological importance, the forest plays a critical role in regulating the water cycle, shielding downstream communities from erosion and flooding, and absorbing carbon, thereby contributing to the fight against climate change.

The project involves several synergistic actions:

  • Reforestation: We plant native trees in degraded areas to restore forest cover, improve soil quality, and create habitats for wildlife.
  • Supporting Local Communities: To provide livelihood opportunities for local communities, we plant shrubs and herbs beneficial for producing Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) such as bamboo, rattan, and medicinal herbs, which give the project its name, “Wellbeing Forest.”
  • Protecting Existing Forests: We strengthen forest management, remove invasive species, and support surveillance activities to prevent illegal logging.
  • The Wellbeing Forest exemplifies a combination of environmental and social goals. Join us in protecting it for a greener and more sustainable future.
