Forests created or improved Fontaniva Forest
Why did we support this forest?
A new forest has been born in Fontaniva for residents, tourists, nature lovers and sports enthusiasts. The forest was created as part of the Parco Fiume Brenta initiative that, thanks to LIFE Brenta 2030 project, has facilitated the creation of this new green area.
History of the forest
Just a few steps from Laghetto di Camazzole, in Fontaniva (PD), a new forest called Bosco Fontaniva has been created. In an area historically connected to the Brenta River, this project marks an important move toward ecological and cultural renewal. The Brenta isn’t simply a river; it acts as a vital ecological corridor that runs through the landscape, providing habitats for many species and creating spaces for residents, tourists, and sports lovers to enjoy.
Since ancient times, Fontaniva has developed alongside the river: established in 899 as a garrison on the Brenta, it is now experiencing a resurgence thanks to a new forest built for the future. This project is part of the Parco Fiume Brenta initiative and has been supported by the European LIFE Brenta 2030 project, which encourages sustainable development along the river’s middle course.
Where is the forest located?

How we improved the forest
The Fontaniva Forest has been developed on approximately 7 hectares, planting 8,400 native trees and shrubs from the Po Valley, including field maples, poplars, oaks, lime trees, and elms, along with shrubs like alder buckthorn, blackthorn, dogwood, privet, among others. The goal is to turn the area into a true food forest with high biodiversity, which is vital for maintaining a healthy, resilient ecosystem that benefits both wildlife and people.
The new forest also improves air quality by absorbing CO₂ and reducing air pollution—especially PM10 from nearby traffic on the state road. It also enhances the slow mobility network, connecting with the Medio Brenta Cycle Route that links Monaco to Venice and will pass through these trees. This project merges nature, health, and slow tourism.
The initiative was made possible through collaboration among the Municipality of Fontaniva, the Veneto Region (via a call for tenders for forest creation in the Veneto plain), the Cariparo Foundation, partner companies, and citizens. Through their adoptions, they supported not only the planting but also the ongoing maintenance for five years. Informational panels will guide visitors as they explore this new space, a symbol of a community investing in nature to build a better future.
