Forests created or improved Parco Nord Milano
Why did we support this forest?
In 2021, through WOWnature, a food forest was also established in one of its most accessible areas: an area where plants and people grow together, rediscovering the value of biodiversity and natural cultivation.
History of the forest
Among the neighbourhoods on the northern outskirts of Milan, once known for industrial activity, an urban park has been developed that today serves as a true green lung: 600 hectares of meadows, ponds, tree-lined avenues, and woods. This is Parco Nord Milano, a vital space for the city and a hub for cultural, artistic, and sustainability-related events. In 2021, through WOWnature, a food forest was also established in one of its most accessible areas: an area where plants and people grow together, rediscovering the value of biodiversity and natural cultivation.

How we improved the forest
Covering an area of 10,000 square meters, we planted 2,000 fruit trees, shrubs, and crops that recreate the various layers of a natural forest, following the principles of permaculture. The food forest houses species that are edible for humans—such as cherry, pomegranate, jujube, fig, and medlar trees—and for animals, such as oak, ash, and hornbeam trees. Some plants produce fruit for processing or flowers that attract bees, supporting honey production. This outdoor laboratory is designed to help citizens—young and old—discover which plants are best suited to the Milanese climate and how to care for them. An oasis to explore and protect, in the green heart of Milan.
