Adopt a tree and protect Forest of the Seven Heavens

Italia
• Altofonte (PA)

Why support this forest?

Near Palermo, Bosco Sette Cieli is being developed as a food forest aimed at regenerating the soil, nourishing local wildlife, and protecting the area from wildfires. Supporting this project means helping the local community create a new model of coexistence between people and nature.

Protect Forest of the Seven Heavens

It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

If you adopt a tree in this forest, you can plant it in person during WOW events.

You’ll receive an email with the details one month before the event (even if you’ve chosen the Protect this Forest option).

Participate with whoever you like and share your passion for nature! We respect nature’s rhythms, which is why we plant trees in spring and fall, taking environmental conditions into account. If you can’t attend, we’ll take care of planting your tree.

Adopt a tree at Bosco dei Sette Cieli and come and plant it in autumn 2025.

How we are improving the forest

Bosco Sette Cieli is located along the Magna Via Francigena in the Moarda Valley. This rocky and fragile landscape is exposed to strong winds and faces a high risk of wildfires. In this challenging environment, Rossella Calascibetta’s farm, “Caseificio delle Scale,” hosts the food forest, which has been designed in collaboration with the Rewild Sicily Collective.

This initiative goes beyond simple reforestation; it aims to create a fully functional agroforestry ecosystem. The project will involve planting nearly two thousand native trees and shrubs arranged in seven vegetational layers: tall trees, smaller trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, ground covers, bulbs, and climbing plants. Bosco Sette Cieli aspires to become a refuge for local wildlife, providing a continuous supply of fruits, seeds, nectar, and habitats throughout all seasons.

The selected species will benefit not only wild animals, such as birds, pollinating insects, and small mammals, but also humans. The design aims to restore natural cycles by enriching the soil with organic matter, boosting biodiversity, and creating a milder microclimate. Additionally, it will act as a vital ecological corridor, strengthening biodiversity and improving the landscape in an area currently facing environmental degradation.

Another key aspect of the project is wildfire prevention. The shrub barrier along the edges of the food forest will help slow the spread of fires, offering increased protection. Furthermore, controlled goat grazing, which is part of the daily operations on the farm, will naturally reduce herbaceous biomass, further lowering the risk of summer wildfires.
