Forests created or improved Camazzole Lake
Why did we support this forest?
The project was designed to restore and conserve wetland habitats and boost the ecological health of the entire area.
History of the forest
A refreshing swim in a cool, shaded lake just a few miles from the city is a dream for many. It can easily become a reality if you know the right spot. Lake Camazzole, known as “Busa de Giaretta,” is a blue stretch of water in the municipality of Carmignano di Brenta, just half an hour from Padua. The beauty of its waters and the wild plants surrounding it have made it famous throughout the Veneto region. It is an artificial lake formed from the excavations of an old gravel quarry on the Brenta River, but it has now earned the nickname “the Caribbean of Veneto,” a big step up in quality. From here, you can enjoy a stunning view: the Vicenza mountains with the Grappa massif on the horizon, creating a sense of peace. The crystal-clear waters are surrounded by trees and bushes, providing shade and clean air for many swimmers.
The increasing spread of invasive species threatens the ecological balance of the area, which is part of the “Grave e zone umide del Brenta” Special Protection Area. For this reason, thanks to the LIFE Brenta 2030 project, an environmental restoration effort has been launched to protect the natural heritage.
Where is the forest located?

How we improved the forest
The project was designed to restore and conserve wetland habitats and boost the ecological health of the entire area. Plant species were chosen to increase biodiversity and reduce bank erosion. Along with reforestation efforts, the project includes creating two new wetlands—a wet meadow and a dry meadow—adding to the area’s native flora. Work has also started on controlling invasive alien species, restoring damaged lowland wet forests, and improving some walking trails. This work is part of the LIFE Brenta 2030 project, which is funded by the European Union and supported by a network of public and private organisations, including the Municipality of Carmignano di Brenta, Etifor, and many supporting partners.
