Adopt a tree and protect Fiemme Valley

Italia
• Trento

Why support this forest?

Following the severe damage caused by storm Vaia and the spread of the bark beetle, we are supporting the recovery of the precious forests of Val di Fiemme—making them stronger and more resilient, and restoring balance and biodiversity to one of the most iconic forested areas in the Alps.

Protect Fiemme Valley

It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

If you adopt a tree in this forest, you can plant it in person during WOW events.

You’ll receive an email with the details one month before the event (even if you’ve chosen the Protect this Forest option).

Participate with whoever you like and share your passion for nature! We respect nature’s rhythms, which is why we plant trees in spring and fall, taking environmental conditions into account. If you can’t attend, we’ll take care of planting your tree.

How we are improving the forest

Val di Fiemme is known for its forests, historically managed by the Magnifica ComunitĂ  di Fiemme, a thousand-year-old collective institution responsible for the care of local woodlands. In 2018, storm Vaia severely impacted the area, toppling thousands of trees and threatening the ecological and scenic balance of the valley.
In response, WOWnature and forestry experts launched an active reforestation and forest improvement plan covering more than 65 hectares across the municipalities of Varena, Cavalese, Ziano di Fiemme, Trodena, and others, in the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

In areas where trees were completely felled, we are planting over 100,000 new trees. The selected species—including Norway spruce, larch, maple, birch, stone pine, ash, and rowan—are all native and chosen based on the specific conditions of each site. This approach supports faster regeneration and improves the forest’s resilience to extreme events.

Where the forest survived but was damaged, we carry out maintenance, selective thinning, and enrichment actions. The goal is to increase biodiversity and forest stability, making it more resistant to future climate extremes and pests. In some areas, natural regeneration is encouraged, while in others new species are introduced to diversify the forest composition.
