It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.
How we are improving the forest
The Iron Forest consists of 4,500 hectares of acacia production forests and 1,700 hectares of protected natural forest. The forest is managed by the Tay Kim Cooperative Union, comprising 2,300 local families, established to sustainably manage and conserve the area.
Over the past 20 years, Vietnam has experienced severe deforestation due to agricultural expansion, illegal logging, and urban development. Against this backdrop, our forest ecosystem restoration project aims to combat climate change, protect biodiversity, and develop a sustainable supply chain for forest products. It also supports the local community by creating jobs and generating income.
The project involves planting around 50,000 new trees in mainly acacia areas to enrich the forest and boost biodiversity. Among the selected species is Teak Lim, also known as Ironwood, known for its exceptionally hard wood.
To defend the Iron Forest from illegal logging activities, we will support protection and monitoring initiatives to preserve the area and ensure the planned improvements of the project.
