Adopt a tree and protect Fiber forest
Why support this forest?
Contribute to the ecological revival of an area that preserves a precious piece of rural history: a former retting pond for processing hemp. This body of water, a rare example of Ferrara’s agricultural landscape, is now a true hotspot of biodiversity, where water-loving plants, amphibians, dragonflies, water birds, and many protected species coexist. Around this natural core, however, the vegetation was degraded or fragmented. There are few trees and there is uncultivated land exposed to erosion and habitat loss. Supporting this forest means protecting an ecosystem that combines water, nature, and history, giving back to the community a space rich in life, beauty, and environmental value.

Protect Fiber forest
It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

If you adopt a tree in this forest, you can plant it in person during WOW events.
You’ll receive an email with the details one month before the event (even if you’ve chosen the Protect this Forest option).
Participate with whoever you like and share your passion for nature! We respect nature’s rhythms, which is why we plant trees in spring and fall, taking environmental conditions into account. If you can’t attend, we’ll take care of planting your tree.
How we are improving the forest
A key element of our reforestation efforts is the restoration and enhancement of former retting ponds, artificial basins historically used for processing hemp, which represent a true biodiversity hotspot. These ponds, once the beating heart of Ferrara’s rural economy, are home to an ecosystem where water and native vegetation intertwine to support the life of numerous animal and plant species.
In particular, we plant new trees around these basins, creating a belt of shrubs to delimit and protect the area. Floating plants, such as duckweed, coexist with vegetation of high ecological value, such as elm, English oak, and elderberry, integrated into a project that aims to further enhance local biodiversity. The former waste disposal site thus becomes a protected ecosystem, where the stagnant waters are home to rare aquatic insects, fish, amphibians, and numerous birds that stop over or nest there, including gray herons and moorhens.
Thanks to these interventions, the area is protected and enhanced, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and the creation of a landscape that tells the story of the territory, linked to the tradition of hemp and its deep interconnection with the surrounding nature. Adopt a tree to contribute.
