CAI Gazzada Schianno helps forests with WOWnature
The Club Alpino Italiano of Gazzada Schianno was founded in 1971 as a sub-section of the Varese Section, driven by a shared love of the mountains among a group of local members. After more than forty years of activity, in 2012 our organisation became a national Section of the C.A.I. — a recognition that strengthened our role in the local area and reinforced our commitment to the mountains and the community. The Club Alpino Italiano is a free national association, open to everyone, with the aim of promoting mountaineering in all its forms, enhancing the culture and knowledge of mountains, and encouraging the study of mountain environments. At the heart of our mission is the protection and preservation of the mountain environment, through the promotion of sustainable development, respect for biodiversity, and the defence of natural ecosystems.
The Gazzada Schianno Section is distinguished by a deep commitment to environmental sustainability. During excursions, the shared use of transport is encouraged, minimising the use of private cars. Some members are actively involved as TAM operators (Mountain Environment Protection), contributing to awareness-raising and the safeguarding of the natural heritage. Alongside this is a concrete environmental responsibility project within the Campo dei Fiori Park, an area of great natural value located near the Section’s headquarters.
In collaboration with WOWnature, which promotes reforestation and forest conservation projects in Italy and abroad, the group supports targeted initiatives for the rewilding of the territory, contributing to environmental resilience and the beauty of the landscape.
