Forests created or improved Tommaso Forti Park
Why did we support this forest?
A new urban forest near Fiumicino airport.
History of the forest
Just a short distance from Fiumicino Airport, Parco Tommaso Forti is a green space for the community. In 2024, thanks to the collaboration between Aeroporti di Roma and Lagardère Travel Retail Italia, an urban forestry project was launched here to improve the quality of life and make this space more accessible to residents and visitors. This initiative combines environmental well-being with urban renewal.

How we improved the forest
One hundred new trees were planted in the park, selected using scientific criteria to ensure maximum environmental benefit. The main goal of this project was to select and plant trees of five different species, each chosen for its ability to adapt to Fiumicino’s climate and environmental conditions and for the specific benefits they provide. The project aims to enhance, protect, and expand the area’s plant heritage by combining expert knowledge to select suitable species, improve the soil, boost the existing greenery, and make the park more usable for visitors. Linden trees trap particulate matter and reduce noise pollution, while maple trees absorb CO2 and resist pollutants. The hackberry tree, with its broad canopy, provides shade and attracts birds, boosting biodiversity. The ash tree adapts to dry soils and helps reduce ozone formation, while the hornbeam, valued for its ornamental versatility, creates shaded and inviting spaces for visitors.
