Adopt a tree and protect Burkina Faso
Why support this forest?
In Burkina Faso, amid drought and desertification, WOWnature supports a women-led social reforestation project. Together with the women of Union de Femmes Garango, we are implementing reforestation activities to combat desertification, support women’s income, and enhance biodiversity.

Protect Burkina Faso
It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.
How we are improving the forest
In Burkina Faso, in partnership with AES-CCC, an NGO from Padua, and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, we initiated a women-led social reforestation project a few years ago, promoting land regeneration and food and economic autonomy.
In the involved villages, we plant native trees such as Baobab, Shea, Moringa, and Neré. These trees combat desertification and become pivotal in empowering Burkinabé women. The women learn to care for the trees and process their fruits to produce oils and butter, which are sold and used in the food and cosmetic industries. Through this initiative, the women of Union de Femmes Garango generate income for their community in harmony with nature.
Beyond reforestation activities, we support the Union de Femmes Garango in managing a forest nursery and establishing a center for collecting and processing non-timber forest products for cosmetic and food use.
In 2023, Union des Femmes received the WFTO Guaranteed Fair Trade Organization certification from the World Fair Trade Organization, ensuring that products derived from the trees planted with WOWnature’s support comply with fair trade principles.
You can support the women of Union des Femmes de Garango by adopting a tree or purchasing their products directly online.
