Forests created or improved Spring Forest

Italia

Why did we support this forest?

A new forest to enhance the water heritage in the province of Padua.

History of the forest

The Bosco delle Risorgive (Spring Forest) is an urban reforestation project that aims to enhance a public meadow and redevelop four natural springs: Fontanon, Regazzo Alto, Cumana and Uselin.

The area is a meadow owned by the Municipality of San Pietro in Gu (PD), which the administration has long wanted to dedicate to the creation of a park with various tree species for the benefit of citizens and to increase biodiversity.
The territory of San Pietro in Gu is characterised by the presence of numerous springs, natural water sources that feed small streams and play a fundamental role in the local ecosystem. These environments, rich in biodiversity, provide shelter for numerous species and represent a precious water resource for both irrigation and drinking.

Where is the forest located?

How we improved the forest

Many of the springs on the right bank of the Brenta have disappeared and others are in a critical condition. The four springs identified in the project are currently in a state of neglect: non-native plant and animal species are present, limiting native biodiversity and leaving entire sections of the watercourses exposed, thereby damaging the landscape and the quality of the water and habitat.

The intervention includes the planting of 500 native trees to increase biodiversity. Thanks to the collaboration with the Brenta Reclamation Consortium, water management in the area will be improved. The park will be made more accessible with benches, signage and informative QR codes. In addition, educational trails, ecological days and participatory activities will be organised, involving schools, families and citizens.

The intervention is part of the project “Risorgive, che spettacolo! Strategie integrate per la salvaguardia della biodiversità”, funded by Fondazione Cariparo through the GreenUp! call for proposals. The Municipality of San Pietro in Gu is the lead partner and beneficiary of the grant, in partnership with Etra SpA Società Benefit and the Consorzio di Bonifica Brenta. Operational implementation is entrusted to Etifor, Verderosa Farm and Cooperativa Biosphaera.
