Forests created or improved Moranzani Forest

Italia

Why did we support this forest?

A former intensively used agricultural area that will become the first forest in Italy designed to be accessible and inclusive.

History of the forest

In the municipality of Mira (VE), right at the mouth of the Brenta Cycle Route, along the river, Bosco Moranzani is being created: the first forest in Italy designed to be accessible and inclusive. What was once an intensively farmed area, with corn and soybean crops, is now becoming a multifunctional green space as part of the project “From Roman centuriation to the Brenta Riviera: reforestation, redevelopment, and usability,” funded by the Ministry for Ecological Transition (MITE). This unique forest was created thanks to the collaboration between our team and the Emma Onlus Foundation, owner of the area, which works to promote accessibility and visits to the lagoon area of the city of Venice in an inclusive and sustainable way. For this reason, during the design phase, services and activities were planned to ensure everyone is welcome in the new forest. The area will develop over the years to give people with a wide range of disabilities or difficulties the opportunity to enjoy the forest.

Where is the forest located?

How we improved the forest

The project involved planting over 5,300 trees and shrubs, chosen from native species best suited to the Veneto plain, including English oak, hornbeam, southern ash, wild lime, field maple, wild cherry, pear, elm, apple, viburnum, hawthorn, blackthorn, cornel, hazel, and many others. Bosco Moranzani is also a project designed for people. It will feature wide, accessible paths, equipped with rest areas, information signs, benches, and litter bins. Every detail has been carefully designed to ensure inclusive use, particularly for individuals living with physical, visual, or cognitive disabilities. Supported by Volksbank, this new green space exemplifies urban reforestation, where the environment, social connection, and accessibility are united.
