Adopt a tree and protect Panarotta Forest

Italia
• Levico Terme (TN)

Why support this forest?

This forest is located on the Panarotta summit in Levico Terme (TN), in an area devastated by storm Vaia in 2018 and later by the spread of the bark beetle. Here, where over 90% of the trees were felled, we are working to rebuild a vibrant and resilient forest for both the mountain and the local community.

Protect Panarotta Forest

It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

If you adopt a tree in this forest, you can plant it in person during WOW events.

You’ll receive an email with the details one month before the event (even if you’ve chosen the Protect this Forest option).

Participate with whoever you like and share your passion for nature! We respect nature’s rhythms, which is why we plant trees in spring and fall, taking environmental conditions into account. If you can’t attend, we’ll take care of planting your tree.

How we are improving the forest

On the southern slope of the Lagorai range, in the Municipality of Levico Terme (TN), lies Bosco della Panarotta. It is crossed by trails leading to Malga Masi and the nearby peaks such as Panarotta and Fravort. From here, one can enjoy a breathtaking view over Valsugana, a GSTC-certified sustainable tourism destination.

On the night of October 28, 2018, storm Vaia hit the area hard, uprooting more than 90% of the trees, mostly Norway spruce. This monoculture showed all its vulnerabilities. The natural regeneration of the forest is slow, which is why we decided to take action.

Together with WOWnature, we are planting 50,000 new trees and shrubs to accelerate the forest’s recovery, stabilize the slopes, and reduce erosion. The selected species—including maples, birches, larches, firs, pines, laburnums, rowans, and hawthorns—have been chosen to create a more resilient and biodiverse vegetation cover, better able to withstand future extreme weather events.
