How we are improving the forest

Just steps away from the majestic Villa Roberti—one of the most fascinating historical estates in the Padua area—a unique project is coming to life: the Forest of Villa Roberti. This green space, covering about two hectares, is one of the largest of its kind in the Padovan plain, blending nature, art, and community in an area rich with beauty and meaning.

At the heart of this habitat, a food forest will also be created—an area designed to attract pollinators, birds, and small mammals, thanks to the presence of nectar-producing and fruit-bearing plants. It will be an accessible, sensory-rich space aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of biodiversity.

The forest stretches south of the villa and is home to a rich and diverse range of vegetation. Among the trees growing here are lindens, hornbeams, English and sessile oaks, plane trees, horse chestnuts, field maples, and white poplars. A centuries-old oak stands out with extraordinary grandeur. The undergrowth is just as vibrant, featuring wild roses, spindle trees, hydrangeas, forsythias, and other Mediterranean shrubland species.

Over the years, the park has been damaged by strong winds and the widespread presence of invasive species. For this reason, we are now implementing forest improvement actions, including the removal of broken or unstable trees, selective pruning, and safety measures—especially near paths used by schools and families.

Villa Roberti is not just a place of nature: it’s also a thriving cultural center, hosting a lively program of concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, and book presentations. The forest becomes a natural extension of the villa’s cultural project, offering new opportunities for slow, educational, and immersive experiences in nature.
