Also known as the stone pine, the Swiss pine is a needle-leaved evergreen tree that can grow to over 300 years. Its seeds are spread through the work of the nutcracker, a passerine bird that extracts the seeds from the cones in September and hides them in the ground as a food supply. Sometimes, however, it forgets where it has hidden them…and so they have plenty of time to sprout! It is also called the "Sleep Tree" for its highly relaxing properties. Dedicated to those who like to take long, uninterrupted naps.

Scientific name: Pinus cembra
Common name: Swiss pine

Part of the Pinaceae family. Evergreen tree up to 20-25 meters tall. It is found in the Alps, Carpathians and as far away as Russia and Siberia. It grows very high up to the upper limit of vegetation, between 1400 and 2800 m. It is easily recognized because the needles are clustered in clusters of 5. The cones have a bluish purple color, which make its majestic.

The lumber of the Swiss stone pine releases a very characteristic and soothing aroma, so much so that it was used to make cradles for newborns and sawdust as filling for pillows.

The essential oil obtained from the plant has been known since ancient times and was used for therapeutical effects. Indeed, Swiss pine has primarily relaxing properties, which are ideal for achieving a calming effect on the body and mind. The essence also exerts a regenerating action on the epidermis and a balsamic effect on the respiratory tract.
