Forests created or improved Le Basse del Brenta
Why did we support this forest?
In the municipality of Cartigliano, the industries are located near the waterway and is bordered by meadows and wooded patches with great potential.
History of the forest
In the municipality of Cartigliano, along the Brenta River and near the industrial zone, lies the ‘Le Basse del Brenta’ area. This area was once a patchwork of meadows, hedges, wetlands, and wooded areas in decline, overrun by invasive species and characterised by simplified habitats. Thanks to its location within the “Grave e Zone Umide del Brenta” Special Protection Area and its untapped ecological potential, it has been identified as a key area for reconnecting nature with the urban landscape, within the broader framework of the European LIFE Brenta 2030 project.

How we improved the forest
“Le Basse del Brenta” has been transformed into a multifunctional and accessible woodland. More than 4,000 native trees and shrubs have been planted, 6 hectares of hay meadows have been revitalised, and new hedges have been established. The most degraded areas have been rehabilitated with the creation of new wetlands and the restoration of hygrophilous habitats. The project also included creating new paths, signage, and tools for monitoring water infiltration. It is a tangible effort to enhance biodiversity, the landscape, and ecosystem services along the Brenta, supported by the Municipality of Cartigliano, the European Union, and the partners of the LIFE Brenta 2030 initiative.
