Forests created or improved Le Crete Forest

Italia

Why did we support this forest?

The Po Valley was once rich in forests, but today these are increasingly scarce, having given way to cities, crops and industrial areas. This is why Le Crete Forest deserves to be promoted.

History of the forest

The Po Valley was once filled with woods and forests. Today, to make space for human activities, wooded areas have been greatly reduced. Fortunately, in recent years, several projects have been undertaken to restore what was once the natural environment. In Quarto d’Altino, near the Venetian coast, Le Crete Forest was established, covering an area equivalent to 10 football fields, with many cycle paths weaving through the shade of oak, elm, and ash trees, along with the sounds of various birds that live there.

This forest is part of the Associazione forestale di Pianura.

How we improved the forest

The improvement project involves selective thinning to favor the species that will make up the final forest, aiming to enhance the forest’s growth, health, and carbon storage capacity. Selective thinning includes removing decaying plants that compete with the trees and shrubs intended to remain in the final forest.
