Why did we support this forest?
Growing new trees in Mantua means leaving a positive mark on one of Italy’s UNESCO World Heritage cities.
History of the forest
Near Mantua, along the shores of Lago di Mezzo, lies a section of the Periurban Park, a green space created in 1995 to restore nature and beauty to the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area has always served as a green lung for residents, thanks to its strategic location between the three lakes and the cycle and footpaths that cross it. Over time, however, some parts of the forest needed enhancement to ensure greater biodiversity and improve the urban environment’s quality.

How we improved the forest
Along the stretch of Lago di Mezzo, new native trees were planted, and the forest’s resilience to climate change was strengthened. The healthier, more resilient forest will help improve air quality, combat urban heat islands, and provide new habitats for local wildlife. A regenerated green space like the Periurban Park becomes a place for socialising and well-being for residents, offering a safe and welcoming environment to walk, play sports, or relax.
Over the last few years, important interventions have been carried out in the area as part of the Mn – My Nature project. In line with the strategic objective “Environment and territory” of the programming of the Cariverona Foundation, and in line with the objectives outlined by the Habitat call, the Mn – My Nature project focuses on the protection of the regeneration, and valorisation of the natural heritage of the Municipality of Mantua. https://www.mnmy-nature.it/
