Why did we support this forest?
Veneto’s first food forest, a permanent forest open to the entire community, which will provide edible species for humans and wildlife, all year round.
History of the forest
The first food forest in Veneto was established in Cessalto, in the province of Treviso: Bosco Nico. In an area like the Po Valley, dominated by urban areas, intensive farming, and infrastructure, this project serves as a tangible step toward ecological regeneration. The designated site is near the motorway exit, south of the industrial zone, in an easily accessible and highly visible location. Most importantly, it is contiguous with the nearby Bosco Olmé, helping to expand an ecological network of strategic importance for the Veneto plain.
Creating Bosco Nico addresses an increasingly urgent need: to develop new green spaces for everyone to enjoy. As urbanisation progresses and lowland forests become scarcer, there’s a rising demand for natural areas where people can walk, enjoy the outdoors, gather wild fruits, and reconnect with nature.

How we improved the forest
Bosco Nico is a project that combines increasing forest area with the production of forest-based foods. On land that was once used for agriculture, a permanent food forest has been established to provide edible species for both people and wildlife year-round. Fruit trees, wild berries, honey plants, and other species typical of lowland forests will coexist in a space open to the community, accessible every day. The forest will help reduce the effects of urbanisation and pollution while offering new habitats, ecological connections, and a place for anyone who wants to experience nature’s renewal.
