Adopt a tree and protect Bosco delle origini

Italia
• San Prospero sulla Secchia (MO)

Why support this forest?

Just outside Modena, a new forest is coming to life, where oaks, hornbeams, and lush vegetation once thrived across the Po Valley. This project was born with the ambition to rebuild a lost landscape. Bosco delle Origini aims to be a place where biodiversity can flourish again, and where people can reconnect with an authentic natural environment.

Protect Bosco delle origini

It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

If you adopt a tree in this forest, you can plant it in person during WOW events.

You’ll receive an email with the details one month before the event (even if you’ve chosen the Protect this Forest option).

Participate with whoever you like and share your passion for nature! We respect nature’s rhythms, which is why we plant trees in spring and fall, taking environmental conditions into account. If you can’t attend, we’ll take care of planting your tree.

How we are improving the forest

Once upon a time, the Po Valley was covered by expansive oak and hornbeam forests, home to an extraordinary diversity of plants, animals, and insects. Today, only fragments of that original landscape remain. Bosco delle Origini was created to restore that nature — right here, in the heart of the plains, near Modena.

This project started with a dream: to revive the native vegetation of the Po Valley, creating a place where people and nature can come together, breathe, and grow side by side — a forest that tells the story of the connection between the past and the future.

The goal is a genuine return to the roots: transforming agricultural land into a permanent forest, with over 1,300 new trees and nearly 50 native herbaceous species. These include plants like chamomile, lemon balm, and cornflower, which provide nectar and shelter for pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Other species, such as mallow and red clover, naturally enrich the soil with nutrients, supporting the healthy growth of the forest. In this way, the herbaceous layer becomes an important part of the soil and the overall ecosystem’s biodiversity.

At the center of the forest will be the pedunculate oak (a native species) and European hornbeam, along with fruit trees and shrubs. It will be a bright, open forest, with wide canopies that change through the seasons and will someday produce stunning blooms.

By adopting a tree here, you’ll help restore biodiversity in a landscape long altered by intensive farming. It’s a gesture that looks far ahead: planting a tree in this forest means reconnecting with your roots, regenerating the land, and leaving a living legacy for future generations.
