Forests created or improved Sappada

Italia

Why did we support this forest?

Thanks to the project supported by MAW and Crédit Agricole FriulAdria, the area was cleared and secured, removing felled trees and planting 2,500 trees, covering an area of 3 hectares, so that the forest can once again thrive and protect the underlying road.

History of the forest

In 2018, Storm Vaia hit the forests of Sappada hard, razing hectares of forest in the Lerpa district, right at the entrance to the village. This area is precious not only for its scenic value, but also for the hydrogeological protection it provides to the road below. After the destruction, there was a desire to restore and enhance the forest, giving the community back a safe environment rich in biodiversity.

How we improved the forest

Thanks to the support of MAW and Crédit Agricole FriulAdria, 2,500 new trees were planted on 3 hectares of land, including spruce, silver fir, larch, beech, and maple. The new plants, selected for their greater resistance to extreme weather events, will eventually form a more resilient forest, capable of providing habitat for wildlife and contributing to the safety of the area. The project also involved the removal of felled timber and the securing of the area, marking a concrete step towards the regeneration of Alpine forests.
