Pizzotto Forest

Situated among the green pastures of the Vezzena Plateau, and overlooked by the homonymous fort, that from the top of Pizzo di Levico dominates the whole Valsugana and the plateau, the Pizzotto Wood has an incredible naturalistic, touristic and historical value. If you are walking, trekking or mountain biking in this area, in fact, you can’t miss this wood, crossed by the path leading to Forte Vezzena, the easternmost of the fortifications of Lavarone-Folgaria. This fort is just one of the many fortifications in the area, on which so much fighting took place during the First World War.

Not only a spectator of historical events but also of natural ones, Bosco Pizzotto was affected by one of the most serious climatic events of the last decades, Storm Vaia, which on the night between October 28 and 29, 2018 changed forever the landscape of many Alpine valleys and forests. This forest, like many others, could do little to withstand Vaia’s extremely strong wind gusts, which literally uprooted hundreds of trees, mostly firs. The dominance of spruce and the scarce presence of regeneration are among the characteristics of the forest that was crashed and that can be improved.

By adopting a tree in Bosco Pizzotto you can help it grow stronger, healthier and more resilient: in fact, our project plans to increase the biodiversity of the forest, introducing local species such as larches and various broadleaf trees such as beech, maple, rowan and birch to prepare the forest for the next extreme weather events and counteract the climate crisis.
