Making the city more liveable, safe and resilient and protecting the health of its citizens are priority objectives for the Municipality of Padua.
For this reason, Padua has accepted a new challenge to bring greenery and biodiversity back to the city: improving air quality and people’s quality of life by growing 10,000 new trees, in collaboration with citizens, businesses and associations. To do this, it has created the PadovaO2 project, making new green areas available – covering a total area equivalent to 12 football pitches – for future forests. With the launch of wownature.eu, citizens, associations and businesses can choose the species to be planted and the area of the city where new forests will be created, “adopting” the tree and following the progress of the work.
“In order to restart and regenerate, at a time when environmental problems are growing exponentially,’ explains Lucio Brotto, co-founder of Etifor, ‘we need to choose effective solutions. Our work as a spin-off of the University of Padua consists of finding concrete and scientific answers to enhance natural resources. PadovaO2 moves precisely along these lines: it restores greenery and biodiversity to citizens, who can actively participate in the project by growing or donating a tree.”
The green areas of Padova O2 created with WOWnature:
- Altichiero
- Arcella
- Chiesanuova
- Ponte di Brenta
- Pontevigodarzere
- Mortise
- Torre
- Voltabarozzo
