November 2025 – Update from Serio Park
We are in Pianengo, inside the Palata Menasciutto Nature Reserve, in Serio Park. During the day, citizens and volunteers planted trees and shrubs in an area included in the European Natura 2000 ecological network.
This initiative helps to strengthen the ecosystem functions of the area: over time, the new plants will form a row and a hedge that will provide habitat and resources for numerous species of birds, such as blackcaps and tits, increasing local biodiversity.
A central aspect of this day was the direct involvement of the people. Those who participated in the planting will be able to return over time to take care of the plants, supporting the work of the park, which will provide irrigation and maintenance, particularly during the increasingly hot summers.
This intervention concludes the Bioclima project, launched in 2022, which has led to the creation of new woods and wetlands in the Serio Park. Attention now shifts to the management phase: mowing the grass between the rows and regular watering will be essential to support the growth of the young plants in the coming years.

November 2024 – Update from Parco del Serio
Some of the plants planted a year and a half ago have already reached 2-3 meters in height, showing remarkable growth. Others, although growing more slowly, are in excellent health thanks to careful management of the surrounding herbaceous vegetation. This is maintained at a medium level: not too low to prevent water evaporation from the soil and not too high to suffocate tree growth.
Serio Park: regeneration between springs and biodiversity
In November 2024, in Cologno al Serio, within the Serio Regional Park, we planted about 100 new plants, selected to adapt perfectly to this unique and water-rich soil, thanks to the presence of springs. We took the opportunity to explore the area, characterized by the presence of springs, and went to check on the trees we planted the previous year in Romano di Lombardia.
Resurgences: a precious resource for the area
Resurgences are natural points where water emerges from the ground. In this area, the water flows just 2-3 meters below the surface, encountering a layer of impermeable clay that encourages it to rise spontaneously. This phenomenon makes the soil particularly fertile and ideal for native species. The plants that are planted can therefore benefit from this natural water resource, which is essential for their growth.
