An ecosystem that nourishes the land and the community
In Bosco Cinque Querce, in the municipality of Siena, in the locality of Montaperti, we are creating a Food Forest. This ambitious project, launched last year, involves planting 2,600 trees and shrubs belonging to over 50 different species.
Forest growth and resilience
During the event on 23rd November, we were pleased to see the progress made. Some of the plants planted last year are already bearing fruit, such as the winter azarole, which produces red berries in November at the height of its growing season. Other species, such as pomegranate and sour cherry (a variety of cherry), have also shown remarkable growth in both height and diameter, despite the climatic challenges of the summer.
Maintenance during the summer
The success of the project is the result of constant maintenance: during the summer, characterised by low rainfall, targeted irrigation and mowing of grassy vegetation were carried out to ensure the best growing conditions for the plants. In addition, a protective fence was installed to defend the Food Forest from wildlife, which could damage its development in the early years of the forest’s life.
Thank you to those who have already chosen to support this project: your contribution is essential to the success of Bosco Cinque Querce!
