Updates from Oglio Sud Park
May 2026 – Updates from the forests of the Oglio Sud Park
At the Canneto oxbow lake, the hydraulic and forestry restoration project is yielding extraordinary results. Deepening the oxbow lake has increased water retention, a vital element for this fragile ecosystem. Along its edge, the two-year-old riparian forest is thriving, with elms and English oaks showing impressive growth thanks to the soil’s fertility.
The project also involved the creation of forested buffer strips along the river, essential for connecting habitats and protecting the water from agricultural pollutants. Our management continues with targeted mowing to protect young trees from invasive climbing species, while ensuring that native grasses shield the soil from excessive heat.
