Four years on from the first interventions in the municipality of Cartigliano, the area demonstrates the effectiveness of nature-based solutions in mitigating the impact of human activities.
A natural barrier exceeding expectations
This season’s monitoring shows that the trees and shrubs planted in 2022 are in excellent health. The plants are showing remarkable growth, having come through the summer months in full health. This development is enabling the canopy to close rapidly, transforming the area into a genuine wooded buffer zone situated right next to the industrial estate.
Enriching the countryside hedgerows
The aim of mitigating the visual and acoustic impact of the industrial zone is now visible to the naked eye. We have added an extra row of shrubs to enrich the numerous historic hedgerows already present in the Basse. This intervention has enhanced the habitats, providing a permanent natural barrier and ensuring a pleasant green space for the community’s leisure activities.
Five years of care: the key to success
The success of the area lies in continuity. A lowland woodland situated within an industrial estate, yet just a stone’s throw from the River Brenta, requires a careful maintenance plan based on targeted care. And it is precisely this dedication, supported by those who adopt the trees, that transforms the project into a lasting safeguard for the local area.

October 2024 – Updates from Le Basse del Brenta
We went to check how the trees we have planted along the Brenta River since 2022 are doing, where we are rebuilding a riparian lowland forest.
Two years ago, in 2021, we started an ecological restoration project in Le Basse del Brenta, planting trees of local species, specifically adapted to the environmental and hydrogeological conditions of the river area. The objective is to reconstitute the typical lowland forest, a natural ecosystem composed of various tree and shrub species that once populated the floodplains of the Brenta. In the initial phase, the area was prepared and cleared to accommodate plants such as hazelnuts, willows, ash trees, field maples and dogwoods, among others.
Today, the young plants planted in 2022 already have deep roots in the soil and are growing luxuriantly, reaching 2 metres in height in some cases, a sign that the techniques adopted were successful. ‘The success of the planting is very good,’ Chiara explains while monitoring the area. The plants, thanks to careful maintenance work and the control of herbaceous competition, have become well anchored in the ground and have begun to form a dense mixed forest.
