Updates from Oglio Nord Park

May 2026 – Updates from the forests of Oglio Nord Park

In the Bosco della Marisca, forest restoration is proceeding successfully to protect the oak-hornbeam forest, a habitat that has become extremely rare in the Po Valley. We have removed unwanted species to encourage the growth of native trees such as oaks, hornbeams, and elms, restoring the forest’s typical character.

In addition to forestry work, we have restored the wetlands essential for the reproduction of the Lataste’s frog, an endemic species that requires pools of water to complete its life cycle. To further support biodiversity, we have installed shelters for small wildlife, bat boxes, and nesting boxes for pollinating insects, also using reclaimed wood to create natural wood piles.

November 2023 – Updates from the forests of Oglio Nord Park

At Bosco della Marisca, within Oglio Nord Park, a major expansion and ecological restoration project has begun. The first 2,500 trees have already been planted, marking the first step in a project that will see the addition of 10,000 new trees to recreate the typical lowland oak-hornbeam forest.

In addition to the new plantings, we are working to remove invasive species from the existing forest, promoting the growth of native species such as oak, hornbeam, and hawthorn. Given the rich wildlife population, we have installed special fencing to protect the young saplings from deer and wild boars during the vulnerable winter months.

This targeted initiative, by protecting the new plantings, aims to make the Bosco della Marisca an increasingly strong and resilient ecological corridor.
