Villa delle Coste Forest

Italy
Maser (TV)

In recent years, the managers have decided to invest time and resources to clean up the area; open an internal forest road; and organize educational activities with the goal of introducing local communities, tourists, and nature enthusiasts to this forest.

Welcome to Bosco di Villa delle Coste (Forest of Villa delle Cost). Located among the Asolo hills, and included within the Rete Natura 2000 site, it covers an area of about 3 hectares and is surrounded by vineyards and olive trees that, when moving up in altitude, give way to magnificent forest landscapes. Walking through the forest you can admire ancient chestnut trees, wild cherry trees, ash trees, hackberry trees and many melliferous species, under which are positioned a number of beehives. The goal is to create a food forest, and foster a healthy and virtuous environment in which bees are a tangible sign of the use of eco-sustainable processes. Thanks to these processes, animals and plants can coexist and produce in harmony, promoting the growth of biodiversity.

Along the trail you will also find a small church built in 1686, dedicated to Saints Vittore and Corona, and a manor house dating back to the 1700s undergoing conservation restoration. Many years ago this forest was uncultivated and abandoned, with a significant presence of locust trees and other invasive species. In recent years, the managers have decided to invest time and resources to clean up the area; open an internal forest road; and organize educational activities with the goal of introducing local communities, tourists, and nature enthusiasts to the food forest of Bosco di Villa delle Coste. Numerous actions have been taken to protect and conserve the forest, including: removing brambles and invasive species; planting native tree species such as oaks, cherry trees, and chestnut trees; removing unstable trees; and performing improvement works to reduce erosion and increase biodiversity.
