Adopt a tree and protect Colline Toscane
Why support this forest?
A forest crucial for water is about to be reborn. Acting like a natural sponge, the forest absorbs rainwater and slows surface runoff, protecting the soil from erosion, preserving moisture, and helping to regulate the water cycle. Reforesting these hills will improve the water quality of the La Fine stream (which feeds into the Arno River), reduce erosion and the risk of sudden floods, and safeguard a watercourse of high ecological value.

Protect Colline Toscane
It's not enough to plant new trees; we must protect forests from abandonment, fires, illegal logging, biodiversity loss, wind, and disasters.

If you adopt a tree in this forest, you can plant it in person during WOW events.
You’ll receive an email with the details one month before the event (even if you’ve chosen the Protect this Forest option).
Participate with whoever you like and share your passion for nature! We respect nature’s rhythms, which is why we plant trees in spring and fall, taking environmental conditions into account. If you can’t attend, we’ll take care of planting your tree.
How we are improving the forest
The Colline Toscane project is taking shape in a scenic area of the Province of Pisa. Here, on former pastures, abandoned fields, and struggling woodlands, a reforestation initiative is underway to restore balance between nature, water, and the landscape.
The planting of thousands of native trees enhances rainwater absorption, reduces soil erosion, and helps stabilise the hillsides. The forest acts as a natural sponge, retaining water and slowing runoff.
One of the most important effects of this effort concerns the La Fine stream, which flows through the area and into the Arno River basin. Reforestation will improve water quality and reduce the risk of flooding, protecting a watercourse of significant ecological value.
But the Tuscan Hills are not just about environmental impact — they are also a place to experience: clear waterfalls, the Rocca di Montanino, the historic black marble quarry, and the Terre di Matilde trails make this area a perfect destination for nature lovers.
New plantings will enrich the forest’s biodiversity. Various native species will help improve the health and connectivity of ecosystems, making them more resilient to climate change. The area is already home to many wild animals — such as hares, porcupines, wild boars, roe deer, and birds — as well as precious amphibians like the Italian stream frog, fire salamander, and Italian crested newt.
